Intel RAID Initialisation .... why?

Recommended Posts

So Ive just moved my new serve to its permanent home and powered it back on and my RAID which was previously fine is now initialising (with 20 hrs to go).

All 3 drives in the raid are ok, the virtual drives are ok, I can access the data .... so why is it doing it??

Thanks

Does the controller do a delayed build as a low priority in the background so you can use it? i.e. it wasn't actually initialised?

If it's been sitting around powered on for more than 24hrs, discount that though.

How long did it take you to move the server? Just wondering if the battery backup on the raid card ran out, so when you booted it it decided to initialise to be on the safe side?

Just a guess.
