BSF and foundation schools, whats the crack. Will it work differently. I ask the question as our head and SMT were blissfully unaware of the managed IT part of BSF and as i've raised the question with them they want some answers.

GrumbleDook Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 It is something that is in discussion at the moment, the same way the VA schools are being discussed, but as Grommit points out it is expected the Foundations Schools will accept BSF rules to get BSF money ... this may be subject to change but VA Schools are to be discussed first.

I did mention it to him when we had the parents' meeting with the council reps last October/November. Obviously not forcefully enough!
e_g_r Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 I feel that we will all have to be positivly pro active in this as Heads/SMT will not be as focused on the "minor" details of IT support in relation to the large carrott dangling in front of them. At the moment as well as your basic Networking for the school i am involved with CCTV, Cashless catering, door entry managment, SIMS and in the future telephony. Not to mention inovation in the class room. These things will probably not be a part of the managed service. Now that SMT are more aware of the managed service thing, i will need to make a case based on the other areas of my role as well as carrying on with improvements in support and moveing towards FITS.

These things most likely will be part of the managed service. Most will be funded as part of the BSF ICT capital investment, as will interactive whiteboards, tablets, projectors etc. I suspect most multi-media devices, digital cameras, camcorders, stage sound & lighting systems might also fall in this category too. When you include all of this stuff £1450 per student begins to look thinly spread......

I know a few Foundation Schools that are going through the BSF and if they want the moola' they have to outsource

The BSF ICT funding is for, Infrastructure, Hardware, Servers, Cashless Catering, Access Control, CCTV, MIS, VLE's, MLE's, Photocopier Charging, Phones, and anything else that uses a PC to work.. :-( is all part of ICT and up for Managed Services
e_g_r Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 Might as well go and get my coat then ;( I do know of a school where they kept the NM in house with a slightly different job role to keep an eye on things so its not all doom and gloom. Suppose it just depends on how your school feels about you.
