Windows Movie Maker

Does anyone know of a work-around for Windows Movie Maker that will allow it to properly save to network home directories?

I'm pretty sure that the newest version of Movie Maker that is part of Windows Live Essentials 2011 supports this out of the box. For the previous version I used the following registry setting:

 

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Movie Maker

AllowNetworkFiles=DWORD:1

 

Note that this is per-user, so you will need to add the setting for every user.

AngryTechnician - what's the easiest way to deploy the movie maker from live essentials? I don't presume it's as simple as an .msi installer?

 

I skipped the idea of the latest version simply knowing what windows live essentials is like but never actually looked in to it properly. Getting issues with the older versions.

What version of Windows Movie Maker should that be? All our workstations have version 5.1.

The newest Live Movie Maker only works on Vista/7. It's a far more robust piece of software than the XP version. It and the required Photo Gallery are available as .msi, do a quick Google for them, I've recently deployed them to some 7 machines.

I add this in 'group policy preferences' when you get the initial install of movie maker I did a search for all .msi created in last hour and copied over and installed through group policy. Dont just copy over the movie maker msi you need about 5/6 other msi of random gumpf

All the machines already have Movie Maker, it is not a new install...

Any Idea where you can find a working Live Movie Maker MSI. I've tried a few I found from searching google, and even tried ripping them from the cache folder. While they will install, they seem to be missing some files when they are ran. Anyone succesfully deployed a working version of this?

i did manage to get it working but i had to install so much garbage i gave it up as a bad job and it (and photo whatever its called) iirc asked for a windows live id at every startup. but in a nutshell i managed to get an offline download of live essentials and pulled all the msi's from the temp folder

It requires Live Photo Gallery to be installed as well as MSXML 6.0 I believe. MSIs are available on the net, from MessengerGeek.

Ah, I didn't find I needed anything like that for it to work.

might be just me i tried them one by one and in teh end gave up and bulk installed all but messenger and mesh
