hp laserjet 2600 , no 2008 x64 drivers

new printer server will be server 2008 r2.

We have about 20 models of network printer, mostly hp.

 

Most have 2008 r2 drivers available. Not the 2600n

 

the 2605 does.

 

Hp tech sais 2600 is a host based printer and that why.

 

We have quite a lot of 2600n , is there a way round this?

 

i have been given an email addy for us to use if we want to ask why drivers haven't been written.

 

Annoyingly, its the 2600 that we have most of.

I think you don't actually need Server 2008 R2 drivers for the print server. Only the drivers for the O/S's you will be deploying them to.

If I'm wrong you could always try the Windows 7 (x64) drivers from HP and see if they work for you as they use very similar architecture.

You can always use the HP Universal Print Drivers, for Windows 2008 r2 you can use the Win7 ones. We've had to use them for some of the HP printers that we have (there were issues when trying to print from clients via a 2008 r2 print server).

Run into similar problems regarding a HP LaserJet 3600n.

 

Even though it may print from a Windows 2008 64Bit server, you still need the specific client OS driver to be installed on the Server. (For 32Bit Clients, the driver has to be installed from a 32Bit machine onto the 64Bit Driver. Caused no end of head-aches this end!). Windows 7 Drivers do not exist for the 3600 and the UPD don't work.

 

Lot of un-happy 3600 owners of the HP Forums at present, it's a printer thats not that old!

You can download x64 drivers for this printer on the Windows update catalogue here Microsoft Update Catalog

They are postscript ones and are labeled "2605" when you install them, but they work fine. I would guess that the 2605 is close enough in operation that the printer can understand them.

Admittedly I only have this printer at home and I don't print tons, so your mileage may vary, but I've never ran into any issues.

one thing i like about HP printers, you can some times use other model drivers to get them working. even had a old 4200 printer replaced with P4015n i think it was and gave it the same IP and all worked fine!

3600's work fine (apart from if set to b&w where it inverts it (looks cool but waste of ink). As far as i remember i downloaded drivers for x86 and x84 from hp installed and so far havnt had any complaints (which from printers im astonished). I Think i did plug it in via usb to start with though
