I would be tempted to check the stats on the server live as you run a test with the teaching staff.

Arrange for a test time when all the teachers can log in to the Sims and check through the task manager the live stats and this may help you determine whether it is the server or the client that is having the problems.

Depending on the queries that each teacher is running it would be advisable that each client workstation has at minimum 2Gb of Ram.

We run with 4Gb in all our workstations which have the Sims client running on them. :)

Log it with Capita. I take it the fault codes return no solutions...?

Check server for speed and issues - see other thread for that (there's a recent one on sql 2008)

What are they doing? running reports? Then try them yourself or on the server direct.

There is a CommandTimeout=10000 parameter you can add to connect.ini that sometimes helps too, but not sure if it's relevant to your case. You could try it, starting with a lower number and see what happens. If you search SupportNet it's mentioned there in context.

And, i would keep the timeout lower than 1 million ;'P

10 seconds should be enough, 15 minutes might be a little excessive to wait for a report.

Gives you enough time to start the SQL engine, or run and hide :p
