AngryTechnician Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I'm strongly considering a SMART Board 6052i interactive display (below) for a classroom in our lower school. Has anyone used one and can compare to a 'regular' SMART Board? http://www.smarttech.com/Home%20Page/Solutions/Business%20Solutions/Products%20for%20business/Interactive%20whiteboards%20and%20displays/SMART%20Board%20interactive%20displays/%7E/media/3140F5A5880C4F8CBFD62F635B53184E.ashx?imageLang=en-GB Some background info: they currently have a Promethean board but have problems both with the pens coming apart (stupid removeable nibs) and the children being unable to cope with avoiding their own shadow. They would also very much like the touch sensitivity. Due to severe space constraints, I can't fit a regular SMART Board with a short throw projector.
Ulkary Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 We are using U-Touch overlays, similar features, Infrared touchscreen technology, glass front. There is a significant parallax since the overlay sits off the LCD but overall good for annotating and general touch screen applications. If your teachers have a lot of content created with notebook I would go for this Product.
Haptic Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Hello Angry Technician.......I have PM'd you. Would you like a price and a few reviews for this product from other customers? Let me know and I will get this over to you if needs be. Chris
semo Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I wouldn't bother using SMART products if you are running Windows 7. Under windows 7 you can not "set up" a smart board because the software keeps the hardware details in the USER registry! This means that every user that logs on to a PC connected to a smart board, will need to set up the board themselves. And if you get any issues with synchronisation of roaming profiles, then that everyuser will need to go through this process every single time the log on. As dumb as this seems, I'm having a real hard time convincing the SMART technical department that this is a bug (regardless of what excuse they come up with)

DarrenC Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 There are a few significantly lower cost interactive LCD solutions than the Smart out there, PM me if you want some details Timmo is quite correct, there are agrowing number of touch screen LCD options out there (the U touch mentioned above is ridiculously expensive). It really depends if the notebook software is the crucial part of this or not. Currently if you use a non Smart touch screen Smart will not lisence the notebook software for use on any competative product. So do you want the smart software on a touch screen or just a touch screen?
