A good introduction to virtualisation webinar - free too

Hi guys

Here is a good virtualisation webinar, completely free and takes about an hour.

It covers server and desktop virtualisation and the three main technologies - Citrix, VMware and Microsoft.

 

They are run every 6 weeks or so and have a very good uptake within the education sector. This one is next week on the 19th Oct.

 

It is a good way of learning from your desk and getting a handle on what it can actually do for your infrastructure.

Are they stored for viewing after? Wouldn't mind taking a look but the likely-hood of me being able to sit and watch it for any length of time is minimal, especially at 2pm.

I always thought this was a brilliant product demo (and good explanation of virtualisation):

 

Yeah, VI3 is a bit out of date now, but when the video first came out I remember just sitting there going "O_O I want it nowwwww!"

Good youtube video Duke nice one however they arent as interactive as a webinar and cant ask relevant questions.

Totally agree - I wasn't trying to suggest it replaced a webinar but your post reminded me of the video and it makes for a fairly good quick introduction to VMware (and those two in the video are a laugh...).

 

Many of the big names in virtualisation installs have a virtual server room set up somewhere that you can visit. If you're looking at working with them they're normally more than happy for you to have a look at it working in real life which is always nice.

 

I think the first time I got it virtualisation working properly was two cheap old PCs with a VMware-compatible NIC in them, put a trial of ESX on them, and used the Sun S7000 simulator on another PC to provide centralised iSCSI storage. It wasn't exactly fast, but as a proof of concept it works perfectly at no cost.

Highly agree with that YouTube for the video, that was a simple one that sold it to me and how I looked at it that I want to be able to do that (note no one do that to my rack just yet, I need to get my 3rd host installed to give me capacity to allow that to take place!)

around 45 minutes i believe.

all depending on how many questions you have i suppose as they are interactive if you wish.

 

They cover VDI, server consolidation and all the main vendors, very useful.
