Sharepoint website

We are going to be having our website built in sharepoint. I know some of you will probably say that its not the best way but that's what's been decided by SLT so thats what I have to work with.

 

I want to insert a photo slide-show similar to that of the one on the home page of the edugeek Joomla package with a Ken Burns Effect. I believe its called RokSlideShow. I dont have much experience in flash, I want something thats easy to use, free and wont take me a week to edit any new pictures I want to put in.

 

Does anyone have any software that they know of that does the job.

who is building it for you out of interest and what version are you using?

its already been built for us by the LA. All the schools have access to a particular site for their school. To start with we are using it internally as a shared calendar and documents, then I am taking over the reigns to develop the web part into something that looks half decent. As for the version, im not sure. how do I find out, until about 6 weeks ago, i'd never used sharepoint.

As its Somerset, the version is MOSS2007.

 

Regarding a slideshow, your best bet is to look at some form of flash or javascript slideshow, and embed it into a rich text editor web part - this would require minimal work to do. There are some details of this sort of thing at the 2 links below:

Mike Herrity's SharePoint in Education blog is a great resource for anybody who's got anything to do with SharePoint in schools - and he writes about both the technical and leadership point of view.

 

At BETT earlier this year, he was offering a free web part, specifically for a photo slideshow. This may be just what you need

try the Flash PhotoGrid integrated with SharePoint's Picture Library i belive it is still free. Link below

this is easy to deploy and they have deployment guide that is simple to follow.

 

it uses the sharepoint list to pull the pictures from and is easy to configure
