Rubbish at decision making at times.....which direction to take my printing...

Ok. In previous posts ive mentioned our manky Epson C1100n they are expensive to run and are all slowly starting to die on me.

 

I've been researching managed print options but just cant decide if its a bit overkill for us. We have 7 printers, 5 of which are heavily used. They usually print about 1.5k pages a month on those 5.

 

My quandary is do i just start replacing them myself or do i find a company to handle all that for me?

 

Then what model printers would people recommend for me in this situation (primary school). HP, Richo, that one beginning with K? Basically a printer that is easy to maintain, can keep going and has resonable priced consumables?

Oki C5650DN - fast, quiet, cheap to run especially if you set default to mono duplex!

We're just researching into get a big photocopier in each block, to run off biometrics (fingerprints). One of our colour printers costs around £500 to replace the toners (not including drum etc), and we're getting fed up.

 

The biggest issue for us is space, management, and security. We have a few cubby holes we could put it, and could quite easily setup a CCTV camera to monitor it, but who manages it? If it's in a shared area who keeps it stocked with paper?

Seconding this, brilliant printers. The user management software from oki is pretty decent too!

We are gradually moving to all Ricoh as printers begin to expire and they make life so much easier and save us a lot of money/hassle. If you want a contact at Ricoh who will give you an honest opinion of wether it's worth it for you, drop me a PM.

The Oki printers are very reliable, but I found them very expensive to run, but may have just been the models we had. Our cost per page on them worked out over 3 times that of the Ricoh printers we replaced them with.

Going on past experience, I'd also say Oki. We have an old C5200 workhorse that is still going strong. If I can find a supplier that will sell me loose toner power I can run it even longer!

what are Kyocera like?

We have kyocera 5350DN, 2020DN, 1350DN and 3920N.

 

They have been good so far, a little strange to put the toners in the 1350DN but besides that we haven't had any issue so far (had them about a year).

 

I have read loads that they are cheaper to run.

We have 4 big photocopiers connected to network and virtually all printing goes to them. I'm told it is cheap because of the great contract we negotiated with Canon. They work pretty well and the office staff maintain them

Gone that route as well but ours are Toshibas now maintained by Portrayal - COPY : PRINT : SCAN : FAX : ARCHIVE formerly Penninsula - our Admin staff do a wonderful job keeping the toners up to date
