Microphone not working as student login

Hi all I have a problem with microphones in one of my schools im visiting if i log on as admin I can use the microphone no problem when i log onto the machines as a student i get nothing off the microphone I have a group policy in place to lockdown the student account but for the life of me i can not figure out what is stopping it from working. the volumes are all turned on and not muted any ideas ??? Thanks

Is it one of these sound cards that require a program to be running to make changes etc to the sound card? Maybe thats blocked?
