Guest richard Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 As its a quite day at work I'd thought I'd have a look at a project I want to do at home. I have a large quantity of audio files some of which are in aac format but the majority are in MP3 at various bitrates. What i want to do is to rebuild my iTunes library from scratch again and when I reimport them I want to convert all the files to aac. What I need to know is if I can get itunes to this automatcally without leaving 2 copies of the files in the library as I don't want to spend an age going through all the files and removing the duplicates.

mullet_man Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Can't you let iTunes do it, and then in iTunes add the coloum Kind, and sort the files by Kind and delete the MPEG audio files. Might be easier than trying to script?

russdev Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Best way Found out where music files are stored copy them to different location... Next delete your entire library and remove the files as well so only got a copy. Next goto options make sure that import method is set to mp3 and correct bitrate and that recopy into library not sure of exact wording here.. So that imports at mp3 and it makes a new copy of it when importing then just drag the previous music files onto itunes windows and it should hey presto reimport them in mp3 at correct bitrate. Russ
Guest richard Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Thanks russdev your idea worked apart from one thing that i needed to change. which was to convert from mp3 to acc. Its now just going to take about 4 hours to convert my music collection.

So really what you need to do is go back to square one and rip to AAC in iTunes from the original CD's... Which is what I did. Now everything in my lib is AAC, bar a few indie tracks/other odds n sods that were digital downloads to start with... Otherwise, I'd go with what Mulletman said. That'd be the easiest way.

The only reason i want to do it is so that I don't have to convert it when I load it onto my iPod so I can get the maximum number of tracks. Anyway I lost virtually my CD's when my ex decided that she was going to give them to her her new partner when she threw me out.

I did their last CD Cover/Booklet/Etc. Not my usual genre, but I did enjoy listening to the tracks whilst I designed it... Hope to do some more work for them as time goes on. Not a lot of money in it, but it was quite satisfying to recieve a CD with my work on it, shrinkwrapped and properly pressed...
