AshF Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Who is the geekiest of them all. It's friday, and I'm really wondering... Who has skeletons in their closet? Who is the geekiest of them all? Who secretly wears Starfleet PJ's. I'd really like to get to know more people here, and I feel most comfortable amongst my Peers when I know at some of them are at the same level of geekdom (in areas other than IT), as me. So anyone? I've got a few geeky skeletons that I'll air... I'll start off with something small. **EDIT** Ok, too much too soon on that one... I er... hm. I have a deep love of Japanese Monster Movies.

SimpleSi Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 I used to have a collection of S-VHS tapes recorded off air via Sat Digibox - not bought - with every Star Trek series from TOS to Voyager - 4 episodes to each tape - in Series order - with printed labels on them - spreadsheet with my own personal rating for each epidsode - with 3 categories - Action - Story- Overall - graded 1 - 5. Also, when Voyage Home Came out (ST Film 4) went to Leicester Square (Was working in London at time so no big deal really) and watched all previous films as well in a 1 day session. But I'm better now (wife, kids, mortgage....) regards Simon

I have 2 Servers (miniitx and rackmount) and 3 computers in my house, and then 4 fully built older machines and enough parts for about 5 more plus lots of spares in the corner of the living room in a full height metal filing cabinet and a 500GB XBox just for Films and TVShows. ....and part of the South Wales LUG.
AshF Posted January 19, 2007 Author Posted January 19, 2007 In our two bedroom flat, we have my Powerbook G4 12", which travels everywhere. A Toshiba Satellite Pro which is my wifes main computer, The Desktop PC, which is also part of the Internet Broadcasting setup we have (hooked into a small mixing desk). There's also the Xbox which for the most part streams media off the desktop, the Wii which is just fun, and the PS2 which runs all its games off the internal HDD, which means it can be kept out of sight. Ok, to up the ante, last halloween I built a proton pack replica for my costume. And it now sits in my living room, as I can't bring myself to give/throw it away... And as a result of this I've just called the PowerMac I'm testing 'Gozer'.

Geoff (I have posted over 4000 times on EduGeek) and Dos_Box (I *created* EduGeek). We all pale in comparison ... it is really just a case of who is third place (since neither of them ccan be split and called a clear winner).

Deep space nine is also a must and the very first Star Trek progs. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and the number 42 comes to mind?
GrumbleDook Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 My wife is nearly at the point of refusing me access to the TV when we are in company ... when watching US shows and the scantily clad girl comes on (who is either a wiccan, a spy, an athlete or some sort of alien or cyborg) the first thing I notice is the computer she is carrying ... usually describing the model, the specifications and how improbably it would be for them to be using it in such a manner as the hard drive used in that model is particularily susceptable to failing when being moved about in such a manner. Sometimes I even go on about how the model was superceded or the difference between uk and us models (Acer Travelmates are good for this ... particularily if you saw a 342T running NT4 on a uk programme ... as the mobo on the uk version would always blue screen due to the connector for the external drive but the US version was fine ... this meant having to run 98SE or W2K on the 342T .... apparently). Heaven help me if a Mac comes on ... being able to recognise the fact that a MacBook is from early 2006 and not late 2006 dues to the screen shadowing in the bottom right corner (they changed the screen they used) might be described as slightly geeky ... Personally I just call it attention to detail ... the fact that I can't remember what colour bra the scantily clad female was wearing ... or the fact that I should recognise her from other programmes ... this is slightly annoying to my wife ... but she also knows I will not be looking elsewhere for some fun ... unless I get enticed away by some sex-kitten ... who has managed to get hold of an iPhone!

My mate Jim had tapes off the original radio broadcast and used to come back from the pub at training camp and play them back at night - them were the days Then, when they were repeated, we put a Dolby B cassette deck across the main BBC PCM distribution at Sutton Coldfield Tx to get a good copy (I hope the statute of limitations has run out on that now ) regards Simon
