_Bat_ Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Having spent well over 100 hours in total on just one website (which is kindof going live tonight but is no-where near complete yet), having a previous history of my websites being hacked (several of mine on the same server were taken in one go) does not bode well with me. Does anyone know a free way of backing up my joomla website? I'm aware of joomla cloner, but that you have to pay for. If neccessary, I will pay for it, but need to know it really is necessary first. I told the schools I work for that the only thing they would have to pay for is the hosting for the website, everything else I would provide (either open source/free or do it myself). Cheers James
alan-d Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 All I ever do is copy all the files from the server and backup the DB and keep them safe on my home PC and a USB stick. Then if the site goes down it's easy to ftp the files back and restore the DB. I use phpMyAdmin which makes backing up and restoring the DB a lot easier.
webman Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Yeah, best method I think Alan-D - keep it simple. Files + database. Once you start getting into these automated things there is more chance of errors
Guest Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Agree with the above. Just backup the folders via FTP and export the DB to txt file.
mtdmitchell Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 hi as well as backing up the root folder i use a component called e_backup which will automatically email you the .sql dump file or back it up to a directory of your choice.
meyrick Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 e_backup i have used in the past and would say its user friendly and straight forward to use.
