Having an issue with some HP Printers, mainly those which drivers come built in to Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2.

Our Print Server is 64 Bit, Windows 7 Clients 32 bit.

Windows Server 2008 has no problem automatically adding the drivers when i create the que, and it works fine.

When i try to add it to a client it says no drivers found, because there is no 32 bit driver installed on the server. So i go to add additional drivers, tick 32 bit, and it wants the driver location.

Thats where the problem starts. Because Windows 7 comes with the drivers built in, HP do not have them for download, and say just plugging in the USB cable should make it automatically install. So how do i get my hands on the Windows 7 Driver for the

HP 895Cxi

HP K550

HP K5400

HP 8000

I have tried the universal print driver for HP and it comes out in mono on these colour printers by default.

Any advice?

Even easier way (and I found out the hard way after a print server (2008 R2) went stupid thanks to trying to wedge drivers in it is install on the server, browse to your server and double click on a W7 X86 workstation the printer, it will try and install it on that PC, install it, point at drivers if needed etc, then once its setup right click it, sharing, additional drivers and tick the X86 box that will pull the drivers from the W7 X86 PC and it will work much better.

You can try the wedging it in way but it will end in tears!

I got fedup of messing around to be honest

You probably took the easy way out, I also looked at sacking 64 bit for the print servers as like you I was getting sick of finding solutions for printers. But to be honest when I get a problem like that I have to solve it.

I nearly chucked it in but persevered despite the complaints, nagging and issues, my manager was supportive that we would get it solved and assisted in cooling the fires down of staff and no printing. The end result is we now have a fully functional 2008 R2 Print Server hosting X64 and X86 drivers for all our Printers in the building which is working great :)

Just search for 895cxi etc, not the HP bit. Also, make sure your 64-bit drivers and your 32-bit drivers are exactly the same revision number.
