Webpage does not load until a stop and then refresh?

I have been living with this problem for over a year, but my users seem pretty patient!

 

If a user launches a shortcut from the start menu to our email http://www.outlook.com, the page does not always load. Sometimes the browser seems to be trying to reslove the IP address. If the user clicks the stop button in the browser and then clicks refresh the page opens fine.

 

This does not happen to the admins on the system.

 

I'm wondering if it may be to do with their mandatory profile?

 

Can anyone suggest anything or have you had the same problem?

Can you isolate the mandatory profile issue by temporarily assigning an affected user with a roaming or local profile?

I may have made some progress on this today, while in a training session for our new Finance Software (Yep i was bored).

I noticed that the newly built machine I was logged on to had the problem even as an admin.

I noticed that the proxy server was set as proxy.prentonhigh.local which is correct but I changed it to the IP address of the proxy and BANG the browser went to the homepage immediately. I have no idea why this fixes the problem and it doesn't help us that much as our students use censornet which has to have the dns name for the proxy.

 

It's almost as if DNS stops working until a refresh of the browser!

Wish mine was that easy... i've got a similar issue with my smoothwall box...

 

Just like you my users experience that the first time loading a site it seems to fail. Click refresh and everything is perfect again!

 

Seems intermittent but is more frequent when the user opens IE for the first time in a while... Thinking maybe DNS, Authentication but no idea what... Browser is configured via IP so can't do your trick!
