mattx Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Just got an Xbox360 Elite off one of the teachers who hardly uses it. Got it and a load of games for a ton which is quite good value. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is still shrink Wrapped. My question is - my god it's noisy !! [ Stuck in a game called 'pure' and the DVD whirls into life but sounds like it's going to take off ] Is this right ?
tech_guy Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Yeah, it is - I've got one and they are noisy. Sign up for gold membership and I'll be able to kill you online
computer_expert Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Didn't MS introduce a feature that allowed you to copy the game to a HDD and play it from there?
featured_spectre Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 yes, but you still need a disk so it can verify its authenticity. It doesnt use the disk, just does the initial spin up, checks its legit, then does so every so often whilst ingame, it is quieter with the games installed to the disk it has to be said.

mattx Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 Lordy,l just been playing Modern Warfare2 - bit of a change from Doom isn't it ? How do you copy the games to the HD ? This one has a 120GB on. How much are the wireless adapters ? Why do I keep asking questions ? The wife was NOT happy when I got it - never mind eh....
featured_spectre Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 wireless adaptors are now round £60ish because they only do Wireless N capable now... Installing the game, should be an option for it somewhere on your xbox dashboard, dnt remember exactly though. Also, if you have xbox live, what is your tag? 1
mattx Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 Will the elite use a G wireless thingy ? I only have a G router.....

No idea what my tag is - have to get in on the network first - found where I can install the games so I'm doing that now. Will pop out to the second hand places tomorrow and see if I can get a cheap wireless thingy for it.
featured_spectre Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 gamestation do 2nd hand ones for £27.99 for wireless N (which is a good price). Even if you only have G capability on your router, having the N capability on your adaptor makes sense for when you upgrade your router ;-)
yugo Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 I usually get my membership from this guy Emailed xbox, xbox Live Membership, Email xbox 360 Live gold card Subscription, xbox Live Emailed, xbox live gold subscription
mattx Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 I've been kicked off the thing now by my kids They are playing Flare. They want to swap their Wii for my Xbox.......................Errrrrr don't think so.
featured_spectre Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 lmao, before i broke up with my ex, i said which one do you want (xbox or wii), she said Wii, i was happy as i would have sold it and bought an xbox anyways! lol
mattx Posted September 12, 2010 Author Posted September 12, 2010 (edited) Managed to get my Xbox working via a HDMI to DVI lead on my old telly in the bedroom which only had a DVI socket on..... Took a bit of hacking - bleeding MS connector for the sound - took the large plastic casing off and then used a splitter for the audio interconnets which now go into the back of the telly's audio socket. I shall be laying on my bed now playing modern warfare and other games now once I have tidied up the cables etc. [ After today's F1 of course !! ] Problem now is getting my kids off Lego Batman.... tech_guy Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 (edited) Lol, your poor kids. And your wife! When I got mine a couple of years back the wife wasn't very impressed as I spent all my time on it playing GTAIV. Get Red Dead Redemption - it's ace and an amazing game. I'm connected via a cat5e cable from the xbox straight into my router - I didn't fancy going down the wireless route at the time as it can be slow but I think it's better now. Amazon does 12 months Gold membership for £34.99 - same price as Game. I've got a Game reward card so I usually use the points when I renew my membership. Saves me a fiver usually. Yea, take if from someone who knows all about lag, if you can go cable then do it. It wouldn't be as bad for you but here even on ethernet cable I usually have time to empty about half a clip into someone before the server realizes they are dead and it does make things much more difficult. Just got back into Modern Warfare 2 at the moment so if you end up playing online look me up (synacknz)
featured_spectre Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I am in a good mood about MW2...did the full single player campaign in 12 hours (including ALL intels) on veteran, and working my way through the spec ops, Alpha done (all 5 missions with 3 gold stars), a few others done with 3 gold stars also. If anyone is in the mood, I could do with going for it!
mattx Posted September 12, 2010 Author Posted September 12, 2010 I've just made up a cable which goes to my loft [ where my router is ] from the Xbox - about a 10 meter run. Once the kids get off Lego Batman I'll sign up.....
Little-Miss Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I've got a cat5 that runs from my spare room where the router lives to my lounge PS: Left4dead 2 FTW!
mattx Posted September 12, 2010 Author Posted September 12, 2010 I popped out and picked up PES2010 [ I hate football but have always enjoyed the PES games ] and I also picked up Grid - 20 quid for both [ Grid was for my kids ] - will certainly keep an eye out for the others mentioned.
featured_spectre Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Cex is also good for games, and eBay is good for bundles. I saw 40 relatively new games for £140 was out of my price range but a crackin deal nonetheless
SYNACK Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 As we are talking about wireless and gaming I have to post this: xkcd: Nachos 2
featured_spectre Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 hahaha thats epic! I do that to people who are on wifi, tell them to make something that needs a microwave!
