Windows 7, Excel 2010 and Printers

Hi all,

 

I am going to contribute to the mess of Windows 7 x64 and Printers!

 

If I had my own way, I would abolish printing and burn every printer in the damned place, it is a complete pain in the backside at times, a waste of money, time, paper, resources. END IT NOW.

 

Unfortunately I am not king of the world so I need to get this fixed.

 

Background:- Windows 7 x64 Clients, Office 2010, Server 2003R2 SP2. x86 and x64 drivers are the same versions, HP UPD. CutePDF installed on client systems for PDF creation.

 

Now for the issue. One of our bigger issues at the moment is when people attempt to print in Excel, Excel decides that is is a Nazi party member and you are only allowed to print to CutePDF. If you try to select another printer, it goes back to CutePDF. This is all it will do and we have *no* idea why. All of the other Office products are OK along with other applications on the system.

 

So, does anybody have the same problem, something similar, or know how to fix it?!

*Most* of the HP printers have drivers in the windows catalogue.

It could easily be a UPD problem.

Most HP supplied drivers (not built into windows 7/2008 r2/windows catalogue) are borked with the same issues the UPD has so I would def get drivers only from windows catalogue for now.

Question two: Why are you using CutePDF at all, Office 2010 allows you to save to PDF fine and with generally better file sizes and qualities than CutePDF provides. Unless you have other legacy apps that can't print to PDF and need to I would simply wipe CutePDF (which in my experience can be problematic at best) and just use the builtin features of Office.

The second option mate, legacy rubbish which staff use and print to PDF's with. If it wasn't for that, it would be gone.

Tried qvPDF | Download qvPDF software for free at SourceForge.net its all open source and has some cool features like send to email/file/ftp with a single button click.
