How do you remove shutdown from the start menu and replace with logoff?

Afternoon!

Right, I'm looking to change the button on the Start Menu in W7 Pro to being Log Off instead of Shutdown .. I thought I would of been able to do this via GPO (using 2008R2) or similar, but I can't see any option for it.

If anyone knows of a way, I'd be interested to hear!

Many thanks

Andy :)

Hi Andy,

There's a policy to change the start menu power button to Log Off here:

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar\Change Start Menu power button

Thanks,

Tom :)

The Group Policy you want is User>Admin Templates>Start Menu and Taskbar>Change Start Menu power button

David.

[EDIT] I see Tom beat me to it

This policy is a local computer policy, and is not available in domain group policy, or at least it's not on my domain GP, does anyone know what admx files the local computer policy loads and uses?

Are you using a 2003 server and GPO editing tools, If you jut use RSAT on a W7 box you should be fine because it uses the local admx policy files unless you have setup a central store.

I'm using a 2003 domain controller, but have got windows 7 workstations, with RSAT on them, I can see the policy if I open GPedit.msc and go to the startmenu and taskbar part, but opening a GPO for the domain, the same option is not there. I have set up a central store, and copied the admx files from the srv2008R2 policy definions I downloaded, but still can't see that option on a domain GPO, only on the local computer GPO. If I open the local computer GPO and add remove templates, to see which admx files are loaded, it doesn't show anything. my thought was to "edit" the startmenu.admx file on the domain GPO to include the change start menu power button item, but don't know where to find the local policy thats got the setting in it.
