cameyo Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Some quick notes, reading this thread: - Cameyo 1.6 (currently in Beta) supports registry editing. So Arthur, looks like this may help you. - Joshd - thanks for the use-case scenario. Actually Cameyo already does streaming, as part of its design. There is a plan to make a "Cameyo library", and we'll sure keep in mind the scenario you mentioned. - SimpleSi - thanks for the Wiki; question: is it possible to obtain a trial / download somewhere just for the sake of testing / fixing? Thank you all for the feedback. cameyo at cameyo.com 2
nathan Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 we may decide to start using this for our primary schools. Which means we'll have loads of awful software to package. I'll make sure i update the wiki. 1
SYNACK Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 This looks quite interesting and I will certainly be giving it a go especially as I have picked up another school that still has cretatious period technology in it. I shall be attempting to use it to tame the mess.
TronXP Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Hi Cameyo Our current plan is to build a custom application launched along the lines of xialinks. Our idea is that the machines will run a launcher at logon (or when a teacher or students loads it up from a desktop icon), it will then enumerate a list of available apps from a network share and present this in the launcher. The user can then select an app to run which will be copied down on demand when the user clicks the icon. We will also build in a 'cache' system so that once a user has requested an app once, it will always run from a local cached version. We will build in a version checking system so that if we update an app server side, the launcher will detect this and copy down the new version. We are not primarily coders, so progress on this might not be super quick, but we think that once it is built it will be quite a good solution. Novell Zenworks has been basically doing this for many many years. We used to use it all the time before moving to Windows servers. (although you can buy zenworks for windows severs).
cameyo Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Simon, I can't seem to Private Message you, so I'll post my reply to you here: ---- Thank you for uploading the software for me to test. I tried it with Cameyo 1.6 (Beta). It works for me, or at least so it seems. But I can't know for sure because there are so many modules in this program. I'm uploading my result package here: http://www.cameyo.com/downloads/Java Media Framework 2.1.1e Numbers Words and Pictures 2.virtual.exe Can you please give it a try and tell me if it works as expected. If so, I 'll send you version 1.6 so you can use it. Regards (cameyo at cameyo.com)
SimpleSi Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Thanks - I also got it working - I previously didn't use a clean virtual machine but managed to get set one up and then used Cameyo 1.55 to get a working package on Thursday. (And I changed the wiki to reflect it ) (I then found I hadn't changed the default file locations for the program so I'll have to redo it but thats just a minor problem Thanks for your efforts regards Simon PS I'd suggest removing the virtual.exe from a publicly known place ASAP before the copyright holders object
SimpleSi Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I'm still having a few problems when I launch one of the progs from the NWP2 launcher program, it sits there saying loading but doesn't run, returns to the launcher but has the program launched still running obscuring the window. Can you send me a copy of 1.6 beta to see if that cures it please. s w a l t e r s at e u x t o n dot l a n cs .sch.uk regards Smon
Chuckster Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I have hit one snag with Cameyo and was wondering if anyone has found a workaround. I have this EXE that won't package up as an MSI but works brilliantly under Cameyo. One problem though, when you come to saving a file it'll save in the directory where the virtual exe lives. However, it shows up as 'My Documents' within the program so when you come to opening the file, you're lead to believe it's under My DOcuments folder when in reality it lives in Virtual EXE Folder\%Personal% Has anyone come across something like this? Since all users move about these files they're saving isn't being saved in their home directories.
SimpleSi Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I repackaged NWP2 but told it to include the desktop shorcuts icons for each invidual program. If I launch the individual progams like this they seems to work fine - the launcher still does funny things and I'd rather just have 1 icon on the desktop if possible @chuckster What program is it and I'll (or you can add it to the wiki. regards Simon
SimpleSi Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I just went to use Cameyo and it comes up with "Product activation failed" when I try to capture an install ???? Si
cameyo Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Simon, i still cannot PM / reply to you. I hope you read this message, regarding your question (if not, can anyone PM SimpleSi?) Simon, If you are using Cameyo 1.55, the activation failure message is just informative (does not prevent you from doing anything). Are you seeing something different? Btw, the message has been completely removed in 1.6: Cameyo | Free Application Virtualization | Download
SimpleSi Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Are you seeing something different? Yep - gives the error msg and exits I'll try out the new 1.6:) Si
Rydra Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Had my eye on this for some time, and finally got time to start playing with it. So far tested under vista and XP I've got the following working: -Firefox -VLC player I'm in the process of building packages for, and will update on success/failure accordingly: Office 2010 Maths Whizz Testbase And hope to build packages for the following, but have not yet started the process: -Clicker 5/Clicker Paint -RM Maths Installing .net framework is a pain, and it doesn't work with version 4, you have to have v3.5 installed to edit the packages on the build machine. I haven't played with the package editor or registry key editor yet, I suspect I'll need to for testbase and Office though to make them work proplerly.
TLARWise Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Has anyone tried packaging up the Edexcel/Promissor Administrator software yet?
plexer Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Nope but I reckon it would be a good candidate for it. Ben
SYNACK Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Has anyone tried packaging the google apps with their messy updaters and persistant services using this software. Could be a good way to get Google Earth without turning over 5% of the CPU to google for the rest of time.
noid Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 hallo i'm testing cameyo with some small apps (vlc, winrar, adobe reader ...), it works fine but i've a question........ how could you deploy virtualized applications and configure file associations / desktop icons? is it possible?

You could add a one-line script with an assoc command to bind the extension to the application. Assoc - File extension and Type 2. You could include a registry entry to associate the file. Look in CLASSES_ROOT to see how this works.
cameyo Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 1. You could add a one-line script with an assoc command to bind the extension to the application. Assoc - File extension and Type 2. You could include a registry entry to associate the file. Look in CLASSES_ROOT to see how this works. Just noticed this post. Your virtual package can be launched with -Integrate switch; that will integrate associated file extensions. You could even go farther and launch this switch automatically when the package executes, using the Custom Events.
Axel Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 In theory should this work: to package a Windows 95 program (currently runnng on XP) to run on W2008r2 64b - or is the technology gap just too wide. (It didn't work at first attempt - is it worth persevering ?)
SYNACK Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 In theory should this work: to package a Windows 95 program (currently runnng on XP) to run on W2008r2 64b - or is the technology gap just too wide. (It didn't work at first attempt - is it worth persevering ?) It does not package up/emulate the APIs so the OS itself still needs to be able to run the program for it to work. There are other solutions like Microsoft App-V that can give you some of these features but they are heavier and cost.
Arthur Posted October 5, 2011 Author Posted October 5, 2011 From http://stealthpuppy.com/appv-faqs/... App-V is not a compatibility solution. App-V does not provide any additional layers that applications can use when executing on different versions of Windows. (Source)
SYNACK Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 My bad, I thought it had some, just not the stuff to go from 16/32 to 64 at any rate it looks like your looking at a full VM to run it then.
Axel Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Thanks - that is the conclusion I was kinda expecting (ie Virtualbox)
