Bought my daughter an iPhone 4 for her 14th birthday (against my better judgement!) - which was about 10 days ago (on a contract from Three).

It has developed a strange sound problem.:(

The speaker is only working intermittently - i.e. when it isn't working you cannot hear it ring or hear any music playing, but then it will suddenly work! (not on mute).

This suggests a loose connection to me, but a friend (who has had iPhones for a while) seems to think it may be a setting or software issue.

I have reset the phone and checked all of the obvious stuff, but the problem is still there.

Before I take it back to the Three shop and demand another one, does anyone have any experience of this problem or any fixes?

Cheers - A

I had the same but it was only after i dropped it...

She has a bit of a history of dropping/breaking/losing/destroying her phones, but on this occasion I think it is probably a hardware/software fault.

Not terribly impressed with the iPhone4 so far.....:(

@adhutton:

It seems to be an inherent fault due to the quantities being produced and lack of quality control, why? as the demand for the model goes up so the quality control has to be altered i.e. instead of 1 in every 100 being checked it then moves to 1 in 1000 and so forth.

My advice freely given (you don't have to accept or take it) is to take it back to the shop straight away and ask for a replacement.

Hope you get sorted :)
