Hi guys. Has anyone come across this issue?

We are in the middle of a Win 7 rollout, and some of our Stone Laptops are giving us grief. MR052 laptops with an 80GB SATA drive will accept an installation, but on reboot, give a "missing OS" error. We would normally use WDS to deploy an image. This is working on all other hardware platforms other than these laptops.

I therefore tried to install directly from DVD, but we get the same result.

If the install DVD is in the drive, the OS will boot from the hard drive after timing out on the boot from CD option. I've not got an option in the bios to change the SATA drive status to AHCI. Have tried repair installs, repairing boot sector etc, but have had no joy at all.

Any ideas at all would be most welcome.

Cheers

Have you setup a partition then installed? As when I did this with a desktop (with multiple HDDs) it installed the boot files to one of the other HDDs so because my BIOS was set to boot to the drive with the OS on, it wouldn't boot without the DVD.

My recommendation, if you have not already done so, is to boot to the DVD and demolish all partitions on the drive and just tell the Installer to install files on the disk without creating partitions and it will sort everything out itself. Hopefully then you'll be able to boot without the DVD.
