Iomega External Hard Drive

Hi

 

Earlier today i think my external hard drive finally gave up the ghost, for a while now it has only operated at USB 1 speeds (because the drive controllers had died on the device) and now when turning it on it whirrs up like usually, but then makes a dull 'thud' sound and stops.

 

Anyone know of an easy way to recover data from this device for when i replace it with a new external drive. (It is an Iomega 320GB Ext USB HD)

 

p.s. I'm thinking of getting a Hitachi 1TB Simple Drive (LS-1000-EMEA) if anyone has any experience of these?
