Knowledge Box "engineers username and password"

Hi Fellow EduGeeks!

 

Just wondeiring if anyone can help - i have a knowledge box sat next to me on a wrong IP Address ( Comms team decided to change the range ). So plugged VGA Cable into her and im greeted with a CentOS OS with a kbcentos Login... does anybody know this.. ashuing there is a "engineers" login.. and does anybody actually know how to change the address range on these?

Could you not just change the IP address of your machine back to its old IP temporarily which would allow you to login and change the IP address? (I assume that it is possible to do that!)

u know ... thats exactly what i thought, but i cant actually find anything on there to change the IP address....

 

So i ashumed ( bad thing to do ) it had to be done in the "console"

If it has to be done at the console, you will need to edit the /etc/network/interfaces file. This requires toor access mind.

 

Have you tried some of the usual default passwords? (I'm thinking root, toor, Root...) You could also try rebooting and when the grub prompt appears trying to go into single user mode.

Right, i think ive found the right area now - however its asking password through the GUI to access the "system engineers setup options" any ideas?

I would imagine it is /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethX not /etc/network/interfaces if it is a CentOS box.

 

Ric made a good suggestion about changing YOUR IP to match the IP range of the box (assuming the comms team changed YOUR range not the boxes) and then logging in as you would normally.

 

I wouldn't recommend going down this engineer route breaking into the system if you could just change your IP above. Of course, if you don't know the password then I imagine you'll need to contact them or try Ric's single user mode idea.
