RabbieBurns Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Got a masters thesis here ive been asked to look over, and she's having issues with the page numberings and Im stuck as to how to fix it. The first and 2nd page should have no numbering The 3rd page should start at i and then ii for the next 5 pages Then it should start at page 1 I cant seem to do this... so any help much appreciated! Cheers
SYNACK Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Found it, the thing you are after are section breaks. Go to the "Page Layout" ribbon and click the "Breaks" button, you can then select a "next page" section break. This divides the document up into sections and each section can have different headers and footers. It is then just a case of adding the page numbering to each section and if requred using the "format page numbers: option under the "page number" button of the headers and footers ribbon to customize the style and starting number. 2
RabbieBurns Posted August 2, 2010 Author Report Posted August 2, 2010 hmm its not working as expected. Even if i split it into sections, it is still giving the first 2 pages page numbers even though they are now section one and the next pages are section 2..

SYNACK Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 (edited) You may need to clear the original page numbering setup then apply the different page numbering once the section breaks are in place. You will need to clear the first section of page numbers then set the next section to roman numerals starting at one. The last section will also need to be customized to use decimal numerals and also to start at one. I gave it a go on 2k7 here and it worked, didn't try it with two un-numbered pages at the start but the principal is the same. Edit: make sure to turn off the "link to previous" option under the headers and footers ribbon and then use the remove footer option under footer to remove the first two page numbers, the remove numbering acts on the whold document. Will attach below. Edited August 2, 2010 by SYNACK spelling 1
