Profiles - What are you using for your windows 7 deployment?

Just wondering what you guys have chosen to do in relation to profiles and why?

I've decided to keep up with the times and try using local profiles whilst redirecting things like appdata, desktop and start menu. It seems to be working quite well at the moment but i'll begin to see the real results when the students and staff come back.

Cheers

Just using redirected folders here, tho not redirecting the appdata.

I do have a custom default profile on netlogon that users pull down when they logon, it's less than 4mb so traffic is minimal, but it lets me set things like our default word template and 7 theme settings.

As for why... It's the same way I've always done it on XP >.>

Mandatory profiles for teachers and students

Redirected start menu, desktop, appdata, my documents etc

Roaming profiles for admin staff + SMT

Redirected desktop, documents and favourites into their home folders

Begs the question if they have everything redirected why have roaming profiles at all... some just aren't willing to let go to their ever so slight bits of admin-type-ness

Mandatory for pupils but may change to local for the following reason, staff local as it fits in well with using same logon for lan and mobile computing.

It's not just about being admin - there are still loads of settings in HKCU which don't roam unless you have a roaming profile - eg Outlook settings (which server and so on) are stored there. No big deal, you can have auto-configure but it means I can't just click on Outlook and read my mail; I have to wait 30 seconds or so.

We're just about to move to Mandatory (together with redirections of various things) together with AppSense Environment Manager for both staff and students :)

Roaming profiles here. We are allowing pupils to change their desktop settings and access to the accesibility options and this is the only way it will work. Works great though.
