Dos_Box Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 I've had a question on my column where a user has quaite a nasty virus which seesm to spread very easily and renames drives etc. They say they have Norton AV 2009 and no scans have detected or removed anything. What I need to know is if anyone has any idea if you can: a. Create a recovery disk which will scan for virusues b. If the disk will have the latest virus definitions If it can would someone provide me with the link to the Norton AV 2009 manual, because I'm stuffed if I can find it!!
kmount Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 http://www.norton-security-store.com/user-guides/nav-2009-user-guide.pdf (don't know the answers)
Dos_Box Posted July 28, 2010 Author Report Posted July 28, 2010 It appears you can't. You can boot from the origional disk, but this will only detect a small amount of problems.
computer_expert Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 Try some of these: Download FREE Bootable Rescue CDs from Kaspersky, BitDefender, Avira, F-Secure and Others - Tweaking with Vishal I've only used the Kaspersky and Avira ones. The avira one does allow you to update the definitions but kaspersky didn't when I last tried it a few years ago, however it might have changed since.
