owen1978 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I know that Becta is dead! But my company is sending me on FITS training next week, is there any point? is FITS dead too?
djm968 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) as FITS is based on/around ITIL I would suggest ITIL would be a better option. http://www.itil-officialsite.com/home/home.asp Edited July 23, 2010 by djm968 URL
plexer Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Yes because the FITS foundation was spun out of BECTA so is alive and well. Ben

plexer Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 as FITS is based on/around ITIL I would suggest ITIL would be a better option. http://www.itil-officialsite.com/home/home.asp ITIL is a complete monster and overkill for most school's requirements.
djm968 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 ITIL is a complete monster and overkill for most school's requirements. Agreed but it is a very much alive and Industry wide recognised "Monster"
plexer Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 True but as pointed out FITS is still very much alive as well. Thanks. Ben
djm968 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Is there any point? is FITS dead too? There you go then as pointed out FITS is still alive and I have seen some recent Job Specifications that mention FITS also. I just know I would rather have ITIL on my CV.
GrumbleDook Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 The FITS Foundation is alive and well, and have a number of training companies delivering training at the moment, ranging from our friends at NEOS IT through to RM and XMA. If you want to talk to anyone who has been on the training I am happy to put you in touch with a few folk, we have 7 of us accredited to manager level in Northants now (2 at the LA, 1 in an Academies group and 4 in schools)
Sylv3r Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I had planned to go on the course with XMA next week, but was canceled due to lack of numbers. I think the cost does put a lot of people / schools off.
russdev Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Thats interesting as I am on course next week at xma and still going (just speaking to them this morning). Maybe was a second class and not enough to fill the second class. Russ
Shuck Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Fits....Rest in Peace? just resting up after a very busy week. Trevor Greenfield's in Australia for the Fits launch and Steve Butler's feet haven't touched the ground in his absence. September and October courses are filling up and when I rang around our training partners yesterday the mood was positive and enthusiastic. No doubt there are some challenges ahead but the fact that the Fits courses were designed specifically to meet the needs of schools and that costs are relatively low will, I think, ensure their continued popularity in schools.
Jenni_Yearl Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I had planned to go on the course with XMA next week, but was canceled due to lack of numbers. I think the cost does put a lot of people / schools off. HI, XMA ran several FITS training courses in July, however some that were originally scheduled were cancelled, if you could let me know which course you were due to attend I can get back to you with alternative dates in your area for the future. Many Thanks Jenni
GrumbleDook Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I'm trying to dig out the article where I saw it but I was reading that OGC are doing no further work on ITIL.
titch Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Can someone point me in the right direction here....I have been all over the fits website but cant seem to find anywhere how you sign up for the courses. Am I missing a trick?
GrumbleDook Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 The training dates page on the FITS Foundation site seems to be offline at the moment but there are a variety of training providers who you can go to directly, including our friends at NEOS IT, XMA and RM. I'll try and prod to get the page updated and online again. Depending on the area you are in I would also talk to your LA too ... 1
Jenni_Yearl Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Can someone point me in the right direction here....I have been all over the fits website but cant seem to find anywhere how you sign up for the courses. Am I missing a trick? Hi, The area you are in will depend on which training provider to look through, if you can let me know where you're based i'll be able to point you in the right direction. Jenni
Haptic Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 FITS is alive and kicking my well learned Brethren. We've heard nothing but positive reviews of the FITS (and every other aspect of training) carried out by Lee @ NEOS (I'm sure they're a member on here) 1
