Looking through the new features .pdf for SLG, I notice there's access to SEN data available, should the school wish to turn that feature on.

How does this sit with government guidance regarding access to SEN data? I know Becta decided to scrap the impact levels (as of August 2009), but the March 2009 remote access guidance* (which appears to be current) mentions:

"The type and amount of data that will be made available online to parents is such that they should not need two-factor authentication for online reporting."

I'm getting a distinct "extreme grey area" vibe regarding the inclusion of SEN data.

Yeah, I've not really been too sure what to advise schools in regard to this either. I think it all boils down to this: do parents actually need to see their childs SEN data? I'd personally say that you'd only need to tell parents a) what SEN their child has (although they probably already know) and b) what actions the school is taking in order to deal with the childs SEN. As for the rest of the data, it's probably not relevant although I'm not 100% sure on what SLG actually displays.

The doc I received via the announcement email states:

The default allow bugs me as well.

What information can be displayed?

Schools can choose to display any of the following information in the SEN

Summary Information web part (default values in parenthesis):

SEN Status (True) SEN Events Comments (True)

SEN Review (True) SEN Provisions (True)

SEN Reviews History (True) SEN Provisions History (True)

SEN Events (True) SEN Provisions Comments (True)

SEN Events History (True) SEN Statements (True)

Where is the web part located?

The information displayed by the SEN Summary Information web part

can be different for each web site type. For example, a teacher site can

display different SEN information than a student or parent site. By default,

the SEN Summary Information web part is deployed to these SLG pages:

Teacher Site:

http://schoolsitename/Teacher/SLGPages/StudentDetails.aspx

Parent Site:

http://schoolsitename/Parent/SLGPages/StudentDetails.aspx

Student Site:

http://schoolsitename/Student/SLGPages/StudentDetails.aspx
