Random Shut downs...

I've had a problem for a while where my computer just turns itself off no warning and I know it's not a BSOD.

 

Last night I reinstalled Windows Vista (Business) and its worked fine for 12 hours, when I go to enable my dual screen second monitor it shuts off - all the drivers are up to date and Windows Update is fully done aswell..

 

Any Suggestions?

could be a bug with the vista driver to the graphics card, have you tried it with a different os? xp ubuntu or something like that.

 

enless its a dodgy card. i had a dodgy firewire card a while back that as soon as something was plugged into it the machine rebooted.

Another one for a dodgy card, we have had graphics cards do that to use here. If there is a fan on there check its working as the gpu could be ooverheating, and using a second monitor is causing it to heat up more.

yeah the fans tend to be rubbish on graphics cards imho

Have had a play around yet still theres a problem, The MCP temp was about 90 °C - (North Bridge?) Installed the latest drivers from Nvidia, Flashed the Bios and managed to get an extra fan in there... it's now gone down to 57 °C and that seems to solve it when its not running dual screen. If I run the resolution in dual screen at 1024*768 it seems to cope but when I put the resolution into my normal size of 1680*1050 it just powers off.. theres no flux in heat so its not a major temp thing it just doesn't like me...

EDIT: Just read further posts, I have this card but with the Zalman Heatsink, it's awesome. Try underclocking the core and mem. Maybe your PSU is too weedy should be around 600Watts. Edited July 20, 2010 by chazzy2501

it is seems like overheating of motherboard or something wrong with RAM. I have had such problem. If you reinstalled your Vista as you said, then drivers must be ok. So the system is ok too. New system fails very seldom. So the problem must be in a hardware, I think

Check the capacitors on the graphics card. I have had to replace the capacitors on mine, even though they were solid state. 1 had blown up ! It caused all sorts of freezing, reboot problems until i located it.

It may be PSU (Power Supply Unit) related problem. Check the FAN of PSU - is it moving? If PSU Fan is moving well then check MOTHERBOARD Cooling Fan status once more. If it also working fine then check RAM condition. If u have two RAM then remove one by one. You may check the Graphics Card before taking the final decision. If all this circumstances are functioning well then it may be MOTHERBOARD related problem.
