ithelp Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 we have 2 file servers, lets call them file1 and file2 on file1 we want to move a couple of shared folders to file2 but unfortunatley the hyperlinks people use, from either email or links within documents point to file1 . file2 we want to put all the student folders on there. how can we move a shared folder to another server but get the hyperlinks to update auotmatically??? thanks, IThelp
bio Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 If server file 1 is obsolete you could point the file1 dns record to the file 2 ip address.... but maybe its wise to look at DFS to avoid this in the future. bio..
ithelp Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 we have being using DFS for while now, this is a legacy system we have inherited but cannot change the name of of file1 due to the same hyperlink problem. has anybody implemented "Distributed Link Tracking" ???
CHR1S Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 I don't get why you cant change the links in an email or document to point at your DFS? At some point the system will have to change, are you just delaying the inevitable?
