nicklec Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 We're due to expand our wireless network over the summer (Bluesocket) to cover every classroom. This will mean our laptop trolleys will no longer have to carry around an AP and connect to a DP in the classroom (bonus); however some of the trolleys have a network printer on top which will obviously need connecting to the network. We have some soon to be redundant netgear WAG102's but netgear seem to have made it so any wlan bridging is only netgear to netgear and also MAC based not SSID. I have found a few products online, we use procurve switches but the procurve device that does this task is a crazy £200; another possibility is a buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP marketed as a solution for xbox/printers etc. Just wondering if anyone had a experience with any ethernet > wireless devices? Cheers.
powdarrmonkey Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Buy a wireless print server with USB on the end.
nicklec Posted July 14, 2010 Author Posted July 14, 2010 Pretty sure you missed the point (or ignored it) .. thanks anyway
powdarrmonkey Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Pretty sure you haven't explained why this suggestion won't work (or don't understand what it is).
nicklec Posted July 15, 2010 Author Posted July 15, 2010 For anyone who wants to keep networking the only protocol (point of failure) between the printer and a 'proper' print server we decided to go for some Buffalo WLI-TX4-AG300N.
nicholab Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Hi I think what you are after is dd-wrt which allow you to ap's in client mode. DD-wrt is new firmware for you AP which has a greater functionality that the manufactures original firmware.
nicklec Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 I couldn't find any recent info on ddwrt with our APs and the 2008 files didn't seem to work correctly
