Leased line vs. LLU vs. FTTC - what would you do?

We are currently in the process of moving to a leased line, very very rural location making things like FTTC a pipe dream! Just to give people a laugh Eclipse quoted 100mb @ £47,000 per year, BT are cheaper. Cheapest so far has been SWGfL which is a surprise as being an independant didn't think we'd get anything from them.

 

You aren't getting a full 100Mbit internet connection with the SWGfL, you're getting a connection with 4Mbps in the 95th percentile - which basically means that 95% of the time, you'll be getting 4Mbps minimum. 100Mbps with BT, Opal etc... are true 100Mbps feeds to the net.

We are pricing for 10/20mb on the 95th. We dont need a full 100mb and couldn't take the cost either.

Just an update on this, I just got our VDSL line installed(we went with BT in the end after looking at the router costs) as a test and wrote blog about it here

We did go for FTTC in the end, working fantastically for us. £77/month (£65 + £12 for a slightly better SLA) for this:

That's about as close as you can get to the maximum performance for FTTC, since we are less than 500m from the cabinet so have only a very short length of copper to traverse.

 

That's an excellent result - doesn't suprise me as Zen are the dogs for the price. We too are looking at them (Fibre office pro - but not sure if 500gig will be enough given our lot). How much do you use do you know?

YMMV. We are a 3-13 school and currently use very little cloud-based services (trialling Google Apps at the moment)
