Number6 Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Strange problem, the entire IT team has been tearing it's collective hair out for a few weeks now. In a nutshell; Win 7 PCs using IE8 to access exchange 2007 webmail within the school. Many (most, really) users find that every time they hit reply, or new message, when the new window opens they're presented with the OWA login screen and have to re-input their credentials. This is not a timeout issue as it happens even immediately after first login. Now, this does not happen to every user, we've even created new users with the same security levels as the users experiencing the problems and we can't re-create the problem. None of us who have admin rights experience the problem either. It only happens on Win 7 machines, on XP everything is fine. I've tried everything to a) recreate the fault with a user who doesn't get it and b) vice-versa, to cure the problem for those who do get it. To quote Catweazle - Nothing Works! We've tried changing all sorts of settings within IE, we've completely rebuilt a Win 7 machine, we've cleared out all user profiles, etc, etc, etc Does anyone have knowledge to share, or any ideas I can try before I go totally bald?
bodminman Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Hi, have you looked at the event logs on the exchange server?
pete Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) a) look at the logs in exchange and IIS on your CAS box b) Sling Firefox on a Win 7 box and try an affected user. Same problem or not? c) Stick IE8 on a non-domain laptop (i.e no GPOs) and access OWA with an affected user. Same problem or not? d) Stick wireshark between a not-working user and the exchange server - record what happens, look for errors. Edited July 2, 2010 by pete
Number6 Posted July 2, 2010 Author Posted July 2, 2010 I have sorted it! It appears that the affected machines were rolled out containing an imaged disc but the image wasn't sysprep'd. Hence I presume the server was seeing multiple instances of the same SID and forcing a logout? Anyway, I just have to reinstall 12 machines now
leco Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Could you not just re-join them to the network asking for new SIDs in the process? I've had to do that with some of my machines and it's worked, however your installation/network is likely different from mine.
