nicholab Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 (edited) How do you work out the council tax you will be paying on your new home? This is very important for my budgeting. Also could my wife claim single persons tax rebate if I live at a different residence during the week? Edited June 28, 2010 by nicholab
featured_spectre Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Ask the local council (where the property is located) as they will have the best information and up to date costs.
ted_baker Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 How do you work out the council tax you will be paying on your new home? This is very important for my budgeting. Also could my wife claim single persons tax rebate if I live at a different residence during the week? Second point - I would be surprised - if the house is 'habitable' then it's full whack I think. Your local council web site should have a breakdown of the relevant bands in regards to costs.
Little-Miss Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 when i wanted to know the CT on a house i just rang and gave the address and they told me over the phone.
sippo Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 You can claim 25% for single persons living on their own, but not sure that applies if you are on the electrol roll for that address.
gl3nnym Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Either way you will probably be getting robbed. But yeah I just called the LA and they told me over the phone.
Andrew_C Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Second point - I would be surprised - if the house is 'habitable' then it's full whack I think. Not if you are the sole, or only "qualifying" occupant. I too think you would be on full whack in your case. I'm not, as my daughter until tomorrow, is in full time education, and we are the only ones in the house. I get a 25% reduction. I need to find out how this changes if she gets the hoped for Uni place.
tech_guy Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Also, don't forget to check via Money Saving Expert that the property is in the correct council tax banding as you may be able to get it reduced / a rebate. It didn't work for me though, as I discovered I am in the wrong band, but it's a lower one than it should be! In this case you don't have to tell anyone!
somabc Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 You can look up the Bands from your local council and then judging by the size/value you can work out which band - A,B,C,D... whatever I'd guess somewhere between £1,000-2,000
