Joining SIMS and FMS servers back together.

A Long time ago before my time the decision wasmade to have SIMS and FMS on different servers. This has meant that over this period we have had a disjointed update policy for both packages, SIMS updates via solus FMS because it's on it own server does not update through solus and needs dedicated downloads.

 

Now with the need to move both SIMS and FMS to SQL 2008 I want to get them back on the same server so I can update them bot through solus. The other problem is we pay the LA for sims support and capita for FMS.

 

Anyone done this or have any idea how t go about it.

I'd stick them on whichever was the beefiest / newest server.

 

FMS is easiest to shift - back up the database, schedule some downtime with Finance Dept, install FMS on SIMS server, restore DB, point clients at new server (edit FMSConnect.ini, SIMSSetup.ini to point to new server). Test, check latest transactions are valid etc.

you could do the combining as part of the 2008 migration i guess, just move them both to a new server effectively.
