Any simple way of doing this? (OS partition re-size related)

Hi

 

C: drive space is very low on one of my servers, and i could really do with using a load of space on a different partition to ease the situation.

 

As you can see by the attached image, space on the C: drive is around 900MB, however, there is over 70GB of free space on the "Data" partition. I can admint that i dont know a great deal about this sort of stuff, so i'm looking for advice from people in the know

 

The drives in this server are part of a RAID 5 setup, and are dynamic. This was all setup by the guy who was in this job before me...i wish he'd given more C: drive space, becsuse i wouldnt be in this mess.

Partion Commander is good for this Job, used it many times in the past, but does take hours to run and costs £.

have you tried gparted. You will have to take the system offline to do it, but i have tried it on a Raid 5 configuration and it worked

Gonna give that a try thanks I wont rush in and do it onthe server right away, i think i'll have a few tests first.

Don't want to sound condescending but make sure you have up to date backups before attempting any form of partition editing - it is potentially very dangerous. I know people who failed to backup and fiddled with partitions, only to lose everything.

I'm quite limited as to how i can back things up actually...because i dont have a great deal of space to play with on the C: drive to install Veritas. This brings me on to another question actually....how reliable is NTBackup that comes with windows. This server in question is the main domain controller of the network by the way...and holds all the roles as well as DNS and DHCP.

 

Will a backup using NTBackup allow me to restore the server to all its glory should something go wrong do you think?

Should do, we use NTBackup and had a server HD fail, the backup was used to restore almost everything if I remember (didn't do it myself I'm afraid, wish I had had the time though). Think you need to make sure you save 'system state' though.

Hi,

I've used easues partion manager for servers several times and it worked great.Normally image the server with norton ghost first just in case.
