solitaire89 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Quick question, of which I think I know the answer... If user A posts something on user B's wall, which user B then deletes, would it would still show on user A's wall as being posted, and is there any way to get the deleted item off user B's wall back?! I'm afraid it's another bullying issue that SMT have asked me to look at. I don't think that the post was ever made, but can't prove it. Many thanks!
sister_annex Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 once removed i think it is removed from both unfortunatley the other option is, FB sends out emails when stuff is posted/ commented on, now, unless this is turned off this may be the way to go. the email tells who said what and when and usually gives the entire message that was posted HTH
Willott Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 (edited) It probably exists somewhere within Facebook's logging system, unless the person wants to involve the police there's nothing you can do. I believe there should have been a "report" button next to the comment as well as the delete - it may be a matter of training person B that this is the better button to press in the future. The only other thing may be if the person has email alerts turned on, they may still have a copy of the comment (or the fact that there was a post to their wall) within their mailbox. elsiegee40 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 I have just done an actual test. Message deleted by user B is deleted from both walls as I thought.
sister_annex Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Whoop... I'm quick at somethings then Hope all gets sorted solitaire89
solitaire89 Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 Thanks for all the fast replies - I thought that was the case. As for checking the e-mail logs, this dates back to November, so all e-mails will be long gone. I Just can't help thinking that the post was never made in the first place - for once I'm siding with a child! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
elsiegee40 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 (edited) @Solitaire89; I have just realised however that the notifcation that something was posted on your wall remains despite the post being deleted. It just says "UserA posted something to your wall" When you click on the word 'something', it says the post was deleted. This looks like being your "route in"! Edited June 25, 2010 by elsiegee40 1

solitaire89 Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 For reference this is what the message looks like (Yes, I have edited everything else!) Thank you for that Not being a huge facebook user, this is all a novelty to me!
K.C.Leblanc Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Thank you for that Not being a huge facebook user, this is all a novelty to me! Facebook can also be configured to email you if someone writes on your wall (I think it might even be enabled by default). Might be worth asking the little darling if you can see the email.
elsiegee40 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 (edited) Attached is the screenshot of what the message that User B gets if you click on "Something" (see earlier post) Nothing appears on UserA's notifications to say the post has been deleted, the message just disappears from that wall. User B may have received an email from FB when the wall post was made by User A... that email contains the text of the wall post. The only reason User B wouldn't is if he has changed his settings. I'm afraid all the evidence has to come from UserB Edited June 25, 2010 by elsiegee40 1
solitaire89 Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 Thanks for that. I don't know about this one, I really don't. I don't think that child A ever posted any malicious message to child B in the first place... which means that the child claiming to be bullied is actually bullying! I'm blonde, it's Friday, and I've had enough.
elsiegee40 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 The only thing I can suggest is that you get child B plus witnesses on a computer with unfiltered internet and get him to log into facebook. without that evidence, I don't think B's allegation can stand properly. There must be reason in school to think A is innocent, but B's parents can be told that they can prove it easily, by showing the email and/or the notifications
solitaire89 Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 Child B's parental-unit is going back through the wall over the weekend - they've been instructed to take a screen-shot of the "deleted item" if/when they find it, which will stand that someone posted something off child A's account (I know it can be photoshopped before anyone says anything!) The general consensus in school is that child A is innocent. Which makes me wonder how child B's parental-unit will take it when they turn up a big fat 0...
