Hi all,

Looking at a plan for the above departments, with Art they do photography, graphics etc and with Media they use Final Cut studio and Adobe In-design so files will be quite large.

So far I am thinking of getting a SAN where they can save these files to, but not sure how to go about the backing up part.

I would;t want to backup all this data along with our current backup system as I think it would take far to long.

What have other schools done to accommodate this and how are they backing up and archiving all this data?

Thanks

Jay

I'm winingin it at the minute. Currently our art department have 150GB of the 6th form and 150 for the lower school. Being a small school it works out at about 3GB per student JUST for their art. It does run very full but when I look at it there is a lot of duplication and issues where they have over 100 photo's then duplicate them into work/research and don't delete teh unwanted ones.

It backus up as normal onto my NAS.

Media have a dedicated small nas in their Dept for backups, since they have a habit of spraying multiple-gig .dv files everywhere otherwise. (Copy local, work on file, copy back).

Art are in the main backups still and it's not too onerous atm.

Thanks for the comments so far, I'm going to get a SAN for Art and Media and setup a backup tape drive I have which runs LTO3 tapes using Windows backup.
