I'm trying to network a canon ir3025 photocopier to enable printing but am having problems printing to the device.

I can ping the photocopier and it can ping the server, I can access the web interface and check the setting but each time I print it fails. No error code on the photocopier logs, nor any sign the print job actually got to the photocopier.

I've now also tried printing direct from a workstation via usb and get the error NG #853

Have tried both PCL and URR II drivers.

It may be that we need a 'printing license file' installed on the photocopier, so I called canon (whom we have a hardware support contract with), to ask the question but none has yet called me back - although its only been 3.5 hours......

Can anyone on this forum help? Thanks

You may need it Print Enabling, not all devices, despite having USB and LAN connections come enabled for Printing. I know I have some Toshibas that need enabling via a Security Key, so this Canon could be the same.

Can this only be done by a canon engineer, or is there a way I can do it?

Depends on the machine. You are best speaking to you Canon supplier.

I know on the Toshiba's its just a USB Security Dongle that you plug into a USB Socket on them, but on older models it was actually a hardware board that had to be installed deep inside the machine.

if its owt like the awful canon lasers you NEED their software on not just drivers. had a few to install they wouldnt even pick up an ip without the software so i shoved on a random pc worked fine then installed them with just drivers on server like you print job go in print job go out nothing comes out the printer. Installed the software and now it prints (and i keep getting messages nic not functioning(no its turned off)/out of paper etc on the server but it does work
