RSoP_Robbers Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Does anyone know where I can source a 12.5 remote agent for Windows? I appreciate that 2010 has been released however, I didn't particularly want to upgrade yet due to tape library support.
KeithMPhoenix Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 You will be able to downgrade if you buy the latest. Keith 1
cookie_monster Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Aren't they part of the install media you just enter the key to unlock it. 1
RSoP_Robbers Posted June 22, 2010 Author Posted June 22, 2010 @KeithMPhoenix: How do I procede with that? Do I simply purchase the Remote Agent for 2010 and add the key to the 12.5 pool or do I have to purchase 2010 completely? Problem is, we've upgraded our tape library but there are some issues between the library, the drivers and 2010 backup exec.... -Slaps Head- @cookie_monster: We have a Backup Exec 12.5 server license which we ordered with a Dell server and that also includes 20 Windows desktop / laptop backup licenses... I have tried using one to backup the remote servers however tells me that I'm annoying and that I need to get a remote agent for Windows.
cookie_monster Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 It been a while but when I installed 12.5 I had a remote agent key that we bought (they're licences seperatly) and I entered it during install. If I want to roll one out I go to Tools --> Install Agents and media servers on other servers.

I installed a few desktop / laptop licenses post installation by going to Tools --> Licences etc. I'm trying to get my head around buying 2010 but downgrading - do I need to buy 2010 Server AND Remote Agent or can I just buy the Remote Agent and install that in the 12.5 licence pool ( Tools --> Licenses etc). Why is licencing such a mine field?
cookie_monster Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 You probably need to contact a reseller and ask them, I think you can buy the later licence and they will provide you with an agent key for the older software.
KeithMPhoenix Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Apologies for the late response here - indeed this is correct, resellers would be able to assist with the downgrade or Symantec Customer Care.
BIST Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 This is not a problem at all. All you need to do is purchase Backup Exec 2010 Windows Remote Agent (via licensing). Once you receive the licence call Symantec Customer Care on the below details tell them you want to downgrade your 2010 licence to 12.5 and then will provide you with the details you need United Kingdom Telephone: +44 (0) 870 2431003 Business Hours: 08.30 - 18.00 GMT closed Fridays 12:00-13:30 GMT Language: English Shaun Dibble VSP MCP
powdarrmonkey Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 This thread died months ago too. Can you stop resurrecting them?
BIST Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 (edited) apologies again, I answered the question before your last post and also because I work for a reseller and was just fully answering the question Edited October 13, 2010 by BIST
