Yes I was aware of this but only because I found it in Chrome [my preferred browser] and tried it in FireFox and found that it worked.

Went on to try in IE8 [expecting to find that it did not work]

You can do that as of ie 6 can't you ?

I only started using it at IE 8. I don't remember when it was enabled for IE.

Edit: The keyboard equivalent is 'CTRL' and 'Shift' and '+' to zoom in ['CTRL' and 'Shift' and '-' to zoom out]

I thought it was part of the OS, not individual applications as I've been using it in Word, Excel and IE for years, and Chrome recently.

CTRL + 0 resets the zoom :)

CTRL + 1 to CTRL + 9 will switch between the first nine tabs via keyboard hortcuts in IE7 and IE8 Chrome and probably Firefox

CTRL + TAB will also switch fowards between tabs and CTRL + Shift + TAB will go back

CTRL + F4 will close the current Tab

F4 will set the selection to the address box in the browser

To name a few.

CTRL + Scroll wheel/bar works in lots of programs it even zooms the icon sizes in Windows Vista or higher.
