markman Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Don't know if anyone has come across this one. I have a number of home directories on our system that had changes their name to 'My Documents'. Now if I change them back to the correct name all the other wrongly named directories change as well?? It doesn't affect users, they connect as normal. Any ideas
OutToLunch Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Have you done a directory listing on the command line to compare? Explorer seems to have a lot of exciting quirks when one of the hidden .ini files that makes special folders special gets copied somewhere it's not expecting! I've had a few that appear as "Joe's documents" when the actual path if you navigated down through it is still /home/joe/stuff etc

sonic1485 Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 It happens when the students log on to a windows 7 machine. If you delete the desktop.ini file from within the folder it will restore their original names but if they log in again on a windows 7 machine they change back. We have yet to find a proper fix for this. You may also find students cannot access their files through "My Documents" and instead have to go through My Computer to get to their share 1

sonic1485 Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 I found out that when Windows 7 creates a new profile for a user it overwrites the desktop.ini file with the following: [.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21770 IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-112 IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll IconIndex=-235 So it has taken out all the previous details about the owner so that is why it changes.
