Ive moved the virtual hard drive of Ubuntu from one hyperV host to a new one. I set up the Virtual machine in the exact same way, using the existing VHD file, but now I have no networking.. Eth0 is not shown..

Is there something extra that needs to be done when moving a linux guest vhd betweeen hyperv hosts?

Ive just tried booting the VM with the ubuntu boot cd and it detects networking fine, so something has happened with moving the vhd..

Any ideas what I can try?

When you moved it did you do an export/import from the old system to the new or just ramp up a new vm shell and attach the VHD to it. If you use the import/export feature it keeps all of the MAC addresses and hardware GUIDs during the switch, this may be what went wrong, are you able to export from the old host still.

If not you may need to trigger some kind of hardware detection routine in Ubuntu which is outside my area of knowledge.

It's probably being identified as eth1. Do dmesg | grep eth to confirm. If so, just edit /etc/network/interfaces and change eth0 to eth1.
