Random connection loss

Hi all

 

We recently had a large power cut in the school and since then we are having a few connection problems which i've been unable to track down. So i'm asking for a bit of help from anyone who can give it.

 

The power cut took out 3 switches which we have replaced. And before i go on we are a BSF school moving to a new build in March 2011 so spending is only a yes if its really really important.

The problems do come up more often in the same area on the same machines but most the errors are still random. The machines are just losing connection the the network plain and simple and a reboot of the machine fixes the problem. The DC's are not showing errors so its not an active directory error and the dns and dhcp is working perfectly. I am sure its one or two switches that are just playing up. The problem i have is trying to find the root of the problem.

 

The problems are not major problems just annoyances.

 

Any help on this would be great.

Have you combed the switches properly to see if you are having a loopback? Maybe see if there is error reporting on the switch itself.

I would start off by troubleshooting STP, it could be that some switches are fighting to become STP root switch.
