HP 2012 FC Realtime block level backup to.......

I am looking into stepping into the world of VMware over summer as well as a server 2008 infrastructure. I have everything I need for the virtual machines planned as well as the backup regime etc but the only thing I am not happy with is we only have the 1 SAN (HP 2012 FC ) and I would like some kind of real time backup in case it:

a) Loses more than 2 disks.

b) Blows both power supplies.

c) Fries both controllers.

d) The chassis goes to silicone heaven (Careful when Googling that the results are mixed ;) )

So in this event I would like to be able to swap over to another device that will be holding all files. I am not after automatic fail over or anything like that, I just want a copy of what was running on the SAN.

I will have the old file server at my disposal which has plenty of bays to add disks if I need.It can also be connected to the SAN in a read capacity through its HBA. It wont be as fast as the SAN but it will be faster than nothing!

So after plenty of reading of previous threads etc and wishing I had a couple of these nice shiney boxes from Sun I have come across the following things:

Rsync

Openfiler

DRBD

So good people of Edugeek please lead me towards the light as I am not sure which way to go. I cannot afford any more hardware so I need to work with what I have got.

Ps anyone mixing SATA and SAS disks in a HP 2012 Chassis?

Thanks in advance
