We're getting a lot of database errors in the system log, with a request to reindex it. How do we do that? I rebooted Smoothwall yesterday and they went away for a while, but the entries are back again at the rate of several per second. Excerpt:

Ticket raised. As a matter of interest, is there a way of forcing a database check/repair on reboot? I notice that every few reboots Smoothwall seems to perform additional file system checks but I don't know how to make it do them. Can it be done from the console after the system is up?

Martin, the FS check is much more low level. A database check would take even longer. We plan to give much more user control over the FS check at some point - they really are not needed so frequently.

Excellent. Give a man a a fish and all that cobblers.

Probably should be a button on t'gui for that, but everyone says the GUI has too many buttons

I've yet to see any buttons as such on the front page of the Gui really, there are about what 4 and a drop down. I think all the services (the ticks and crosses) should all be clickable ;)

Good idea! Thanks.

Now fixed with:

# /usr/bin/smoothwall/databasetools.pl --reindex

Just a quick note that on the Database Backup page ( information >> settings >> database backup ) the "Optimize Database" button will perform this from the UI. Not that it's especially clear from the title that this is what it does.

/me wanders off to add things to the V8 design notes

Oddly enough this is one of the things I've been looking at in V8 the last few days. The dashboard and services pages should both present click-through links to something a bit more tangible about the services they're representing (start / stop / restart, logs, configuration etc) although we're still at the experimental stage :)
