Is there a way i can send a batch file or some kind of script to the laptops in my school so that they will connect to a new wireless key.?

Try atattched, we use it here for our staff laptops and the very few AP's we have here. Need to stick it in a computer startup script in GPO (stick the batch file AND the exe in the GPO!)

 

You'll also need to edit the batch file, pretty self explanatory in there.....

This sounds like something we could use, I'll give it a try. We use MDT 2010 to perform fresh installs on new hardware in the school and being able to add the wireless settings would be awesome!

Have you thought about using a radius server and authenticating machines against AD so WPA keys get generated automatically and you can manage access through AD.

What version of windows server are you running, i can send you info on setting up IAS

The domain is based on 2008 R2, with some 2008 for when 64 bit isn't appropriate.

Hi i have tried configuring the bat file to work with our wireless. The only thing is our wireless is set up as Authentication:PSK Encryption:TKIP if i type in PSK i assume the config does not have a setup for this type of connection or am i doing something wrong. Here is the line i am typing in the.BAT

 

WifiCfg_XP.exe -add /SSID:Woodkirk /Authentication:PSK /Encryption:TKIP /NetworkKey:woodkirkwireless /KeyIndex:1 /KeyProvidedAutomatically:FALSE

 

I have tried all different authentication types aswell with no change.

 

Any help would be appreciated, cheers

Try setting the /Authentication to be /Authentication:WPAPSK

An easy way of doing this is using the config that was kindly included above by RH91UK. Create a new SSID that distributes on a startup script GPO to the laptops (it will now be there but will not connect to anything). Then after a week or so all the laptops will now have this new SSID in the laptops memory after running the script. You can now rename your wireless network to the new SSID name and all the laptops will connect the new SSID asif nothing has happened. Edited June 17, 2010 by jonnykewell1
