Hi all,

At the School I work at we have a temp laptop scheme where we lend out laptops to students who don’t have a laptop or need one for a lesson. The problem we are having is that the kids like to damage them and of course it is I who has to fix it!

Do you have any systems which could help me out?

Looking forward to your reply :)

Do you log the names of the students that use them? Also I think a teacher has a certain responsibility to ensure laptops are treated well in a classroom (although I understand they cannot be everywhere at once).

We will lend out a laptop and if it comes back damaged an automatic detention and letter home is sent. The pupil then looses any privilages to use a laptop for the rest of the term or year (depends on damage).

Hi

we sell a product called wasp inventory management you would need to scan the laptops as they go out with the students but this would keep a full history of what student had the laptop and who damaged it .

alot of my schools i supply use this and then a letter is sent home as they can prove it was that particular student who damaged it

hope this helps

I seem to remember a student was caught damaging a computer here they were made to pay for the damage. It's quite a good deterrent. If you keep track of who borrows what and get your head/superiors to follow up with this when there are problems you'll find they stop doing it pretty quick I think.

The vandals probably don't care because it makes no difference to them if the laptop gets damaged. If it costs them personally they will have a reason to care about it.
