What versions of VNC are you guys running?

 

We've currently got RealVNC, but I'm going to have to enable systray for students (it's either that or enable the messenger service ).

 

I need a version of VNC where I can disable the systray icon. I know there's a 'modified' version of real vnc that was distributed with LanView that didn't show the tray icon. But are there any good alternatives?

We've been using TightVNC here for years, it's just a simple registry key to hide the icon.

Have you looked at using Skeep VNC console? (Skeep VNC Console)

We use UltraVNC here, installed as an MSI. Hidden the tray icon with a reg entry (as part of the MSI so it's all done automatically).

I have, but the moment I'm really more looking at the server component then the viewer. We have AB tutor for the teachers, VNC is just used by the tech staff.

GenControl is good for a temp fix - as long as you are an admin - it puts the remote end on for you

My only thinking was you could use it configure and deploy UltraVNC in an easy way.

 

(although it is a Friday so I'm probably not understanding what it is you're looking to do anyway :-)

Ahhhhhhh, didn't realise you could use it to deploy ultraVNC.
