SYNACK Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 The MS Volume site actually advises against using X64 versions and says strongly you use the X86 still. Yes, its quite sad actually, it links to a technet article which outlines all of the stuff that does not work with it like ActivSync. It really appears to have not had the support from the rest of Microsoft at this point and even at the MS events I have been to they have said the only real benifits are in excel with huge worksheets. I'm guessing that the next version of Office may come out with both 64bit support and support for 64 bit for at least the Microsoft extentions.

Why did M$ had to change it so much??? They are bit like sims sometimes in the old days: with every updates all the menu locations changes
jc1875 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Yep, like it, deploying with W7 over summer :-) Planning on deploying it this summer along with W7 Currently using it on my workstation however Its nearly ready to go here for full deployment with w7 this summer. Snap, currently using it on my workstation at work with a plan to go campus wide with it along with Windows 7 this summer (scary times ahead!) Yeah were hoping to instal it over the summer with W7 and 2k8R2. I have it on my machine, and i love it - it is pretty slick, and i do love powerpoint. Were upgrading to win 7, so if all goes to plan it will be deployed through that using WDS. We've already started with some office 2010 machines to allow staff to experience the new interface before we upgrade like the folks above to office 2010 and windows 7 during the summer. Domain is on 2k8R2 boxes and we're going to attempt an active directory domain rename....

A can of worms weighing approximately 1 metric tonne. And if anyone is planning to open said can of worms, I'd rather it were you than me. The best I've ever seen a domain rename go ended in having to rejoin every workstation to the renamed domain by hand. Good luck. You'll need it.

And if anyone is planning to open said can of worms, I'd rather it were you than me. The best I've ever seen a domain rename go ended in having to rejoin every workstation to the renamed domain by hand. Good luck. You'll need it. I am also looking at opening this can of worms in the near future and will be doing the whole thing on VMs (PDC + Exchange) dupes will be used and then tested with a couple of workstations before it is let loose on the main network. For the procedure I'll just have the one DC so will be able to switch back to the original VHD if required without too much hassle. enjay Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Upgraded my office computer from 2007 to 2010 earlier this week - all other PCs still 2003. Deployment of things like this is on hold just now pending a new IT Co-Ord starting in September, when we can get a decent long-term strategy in place. I can see the benefits of a move from 2003 to 2010, but what new things can I now which I couldn't in 2007? A quick search for a new features list didn't turn up much of interest...
jc1875 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Well - windows 7 and office 2010 has been a breeze (SCCM). Migrated our exchange 2003 to 2010 and BES 4 to BES Express. External domain name and emails changed. Sharepoint sites changed for domain rename and new certificates applied to sharepoint and exchange 2010 sites. and HP Multipoint kit should be arriving in the next day. Then I may consider the domain rename

It's pretty, but slow (compared to 2010) We have decided to upgrade to 2007 over the summer. We need to re-image the entire school so are doing 07 as part of it. I am just waiting for the phone to ring in September with people saying they don't like it or don't know how to use it. I wish we did not have to as much software on the images. Most of them though are exe's only. nN
